With my shiny new telephone
I can see what distant old friends are up to
see them getting old and fat and having kids
I can check my email from anywhere I get signal
I am on call at work day and night seven days a week
to keep the corporate network from crashing
I can play multiple games of chess with complete strangers
Some I beat
Others beat me
People send me messages with funny pictures of cats
I look up trivial information with the swipe of a thumb
wondering if the people making the free encyclopedias know
what they're talking about
It tells me all this with beeps and clicks and buzzes
so I'm always connected to everyone anywhere anytime
But I can't seem to pick it up
and tell you how sorry I am
