Aniruddha Pathak - When I glimpse at the Pearly Gate

2014-06-17 2

Here comes to end my play’s last scene; here ends
My pilgrimage, its last ponderous mile,
And when the last curtain’s called in a while,
And when I say goodbye to all my friends,
On a Judgment Day when my soul should show,
Elemental flesh when in dust shall merge,
All but subtle vestiges when I purge,
My sins and sacred deeds ere me shall go
To deserve me a term or not in hell,
My flesh suffering taste of the devil,
But when purged I’m of all sinful evil—
For taste of heaven if for a short spell—
O Gluttonous Death, pity be O mate,
In glee while I enter the Pearly Gate.
