A loving ember, delicately poised, awaiting the opportunity to ignite,
A soft amber glow encompassed by the murky surrounding obscurity of the night,
An undemanding, harmonious existence, requiring so very little, to substantiate,
So naturally stunning as the softening glow continues to cosily emanate.
Mischievously the smoke curls, wisping and winding on a completely random path,
Circling with turmoil and intensity, capturing indiscriminately objects within its warpath,
Sensual the movement yet so vague in intention, slow and distinct the perpetual motion,
Non committed and free spirited it drifts, disappearing into the night like a dropp in the ocean.
The flickering light brings attention, before too long a mixed audience of diverse origin,
Flames dance in the foreground, masterfully showcasing, as poets have previously written,
Glowing, flickering, dancing, the entertainment unceasing, transfixed observers unable to abstain,
On and on the display stretches, continuing to delight any and all who tirelessly remain.
One generation dwindles as another begins to rise, welcoming the chance to take centre stage,
Natural is its creation, an existence that has survived the brutal changes of many an age,
Admired for its destruction, never for the visual magnificent it displays,
I wonder, truly, about the nature of humanity and what that really says?
Rarely are we appreciated for our most beautiful qualities as this world shapes us to recognize and appreciate the lesser things.
