Richard Netherland Cook - Some In Blue And Some In Gray

2014-06-16 1

The evening moon shinning high,
Cast its' light on the dead that lay,
Out over the fields and woods nearby,
Some in blue and some in gray.

Old and young, the weak and strong,
Marched with courage into the fray,
And fought the battle for right or wrong.
Some in blue and some in gray.

Now heavenly rewards the dead will reap,
For the price they had to pay,
Now strangers lie in peaceful sleep,
Some in blue and some in gray.

As the light of the moon fades over the brave,
Giving rise to the morn of a new born day,
We buried the dead in a common grave,
Some in blue and some in gray.

The battle today is over and through,
But others are dying in fields far away,
For a cause each side thought to be true
Some in blue and some in gray.
