I have yet to awake
From our first kiss -
Taken lingering at the threshold
Of your apartment door
And bliss.
Touched lips spark static
And held slightly together
One hand in the small of your back
The other behind mine
Fingers crossed –
Not for an invite tonight
But a future.
In that slight lip touch –
Plush lawns, bouncy balls
Diaper pails and trips to malls –
Schools -
Tears -
Hopes –
Fears –
And of course dreams of growing old together.
We parted relieved to know
The feeling was mutual –
Buoyed on those dreams I floated
Down the hall.
Forsook the elevator and
Took the stairs by twos.
Out into the Salt Lake streets
And past my bike.
Had to take a lap around the block
to be safe to ride.
