Helen Vann - Learning to Fly

2014-06-16 9

Time to release the grasp
Of what I held was Icarus
Learning to fly
Too near the sun
Intensely wanting
To know a
One - two - you
And who did I think I was
To suggest some hint of
Happiness that you and I
Could fly and sun not melt
Our wings that night
That never was to be it seems
Lay beneath hidden dreams
Hushed away - I cannot say
What may or may not be
Because though the past is clear
And present here
The future is a hope - skip
Unknown trip that beckons
Me to play
Ask or not what price I'll pay
Today - tomorrow - yesterday
Hardly a question of eternity
Still a life
A measurement:
A way to weigh
A day an hour a minute a year
A century a second
A millennium
Near and far and
Close and open and shut
And infinite!
Maybe - maybe not
You and I
In our frame
Maybe - maybe not
You and I
In our time
Will we fly.
