Country Dance #1 from Nell Gwyn, as performed by the St Louis Symphony under the direction of Rudolph Ganz. The music was an early microphone recording made December 5, 1925 in St. Louis. Country Dance was composed by Sir Edward German for Anthony Hope's play English Nell which became better known as Nell Gwyn. Sir Edward became the director of the Globe Theatre in 1888 and was hailed as the successor to Arthur Sullivan as England's foremost composer of comic opera. German completed his work on English Nell in 1900.
