Fabien Cousteau speaks out from underwater

Two weeks into his bid to break the world record for the longest time spent in an undersea laboratory, Fabien Cousteau says he's doing well.

The grandson of famed oceanographer Jacques Cousteau is trying to break the record set by his grandfather in 1963 of 30 days underwater in a similar facility.

But for Fabien, his mission means more than just beating a record.

(SOUNDBITE) FABIEN COUSTEAU SAYING:

"Could we go more? Yes, of course. Would it be in Aquarius? Maybe, maybe not. But that's for someone else to be able to determine. I hope that someone does get to 32, 33, 45 -- 60 days. Because we very much need that kind of exploration, that kind of 'out of the box' thinking in order to bring new discoveries and new ideas to the world."

Cousteau says he thinks his grandfather would be proud of the research his team is conducting.
