Herbert Nehrlich 2 - Weather Permitting

2014-06-16 1

Yesterday...

The sun shone
brilliantly
down on the farm.

This morning...

As we await
daylight
to enter the sky,
thunder growls
outside my window,
and rain pelts my roof.

Today....

Farming is
a venture in hope,
an exercise touched by
futility
gracefully given
by Mother Nature
to all,
including those
who will not tire
in their delusions
that man can
have a say
in how
she plays her hand.

Tonight...

We know,
as we exercise
complete control
over
what will be
the big meal
of the day.
We may grill
our chops
in the early breeze
of dusk........
Weather permitting.
