Herbert Nehrlich 2 - Salivary Memories

2014-06-16 2

Remember LOVE,
the days in Spring
so long ago,
when we would be content
to spend unending hours
just to kiss,
you raised yourself on tippitoes,
I stooped and tilted
head and shoulders then.

But do you also still recall
how I was thrilled
to have you trickle
your saliva
on my lips,
my tongue
and then we would,
just for the fun of it
think lemons ernestly
and it would flow
into my mouth,
it was from you....
and later we would talk
about the ptyalin
and how the salivary glands
(just six of them at that)
could thus be tricked
to make some more,
by just the mention of
the citrus fruit by name.

But, never mind the chemistry,
you were the nerd at times,
I loved the whole idea
and there was taste
to savour and,
in youthful madness
be enough to die for,
I had read the masters well,
and entertained no doubt.
