The night comes around at last.
The stars shine like luminous diamonds.
My heart swells and falls like a sea.
The two feelings urge yet repel me.
I stare at my mirror seemingly for eons.
My dress drags behind me as if I'm a magnificent queen,
Across the eeriely silent cobblestone streets.
I stand alone beneath a lamp post and,
I merely wait and pray.
Thankfully yet unfortunately, I needn't wait long.
My heart quickens like a hare.
My pores begin to weep in,
Fear and absolute uncertainty.
Since he is a gentleman, he bestows a kiss.
An odd smile graces my face.
His facade is deceivingly calm and lovely.
A lovely prince in the guise of a devious devil.
A lovely devil in the guise of a devious prince.
On the outside, a charming, poetic angel.
On the inside, a cold, calculating snake.
The subtle, sullen smile gives,
Off false and deadly impressions.
Sweet words soothe me into a sense of security.
In my love and interest I am blinded.
At the back of my mind, I am ready to flee.
But I wonder if my life will soon be,
Extinguished like the candles at our dinner table...
