Zero
Here in your hand
Is card number zero
This is the prologue
This is the introduction
Whatever you want to call it
It is only the beginning
And like our relationship
There will be more to come
One would hope
One
It was that day
January the first
The trickling rain
Its knowing hiss
We took shelter
Under the big apple
The big white apple
I asked you a question
With the touch of a button
Smilingly, you said yes
And for a moment
It was only us
Only the two of us
Two
Our midnight dance
The clock struck twelve
Loud cheers from the crowd
The sky, painted with colours
I held you up so you can see
The beauty of the starless sky
The fireworks draped across
The Eye paints the scene
You and I, and the sky
That makes three
Three
A kiss on the cheek
Music in our ears
Cries of the friend of a friend
I’m leaving, she said
So she didn’t stop
We sat there, unsure
Unsure of anything
But ourselves
And in the room
There were four
Four
There it was
A small heart
Just one heart
Each, one half
Both, connected
Two makes one
One makes us
And there it was
Our fingers
Five on five
Five
In reflections, under the light
The smell of something new
We waited for it
Mirrors and lights
Amidst them we stand
We look at each other
And we smile again
Close together
Till we part again
Six days later
Six
Hi there, pill
It’s card number six
One of sixth of the first
The final day of that week
That amazing week
Amidst the books
You rested on me
You looked at me
I was barely awake
We talked, we teased
It was cold
You said it was cold
The morning slipped in
And then
It was time to go
