Leah Johnston - The Cycle of Our Hidden Past

2014-06-15 7

(Free Verse)

The pain may be washed away
with the waves of time
While memories linger in sand
Ready to be washed up again
by ocean waves.

It’s ingrained into our minds,
written in stone.
It slowly starts to disintegrate
as we push it out of our minds
until someone plucks it from the depths of the ocean
and starts to examine the rubble remains.

We try to skip it along the surface back to the nadir,
but it just keeps flowing back with the tide
waiting for discovery,

being passed around from one hand to the next.
Until it sinks again
and the cycle repeats itself,

the cycle of our hidden past.
