POETRY IN OLD AGE

Poetry in old age
Is more than just Consolation-
Life is lived wherever we are
Even in the quietest perceptions-
Light seen and love hungered for
Touch us also,
Even if the music of our being
Tends to diminuendo-

Small and sweet
Kind and beautiful
Poems teach us to love life still-
Beauty too is born
Even to ancient eyes
At the welcome appearance
Of loved ones.
