Christopher Thumwood - Startled awake

2014-06-15 15

Startled awake by a strange sound,
Lazily i sought out this strange sound,
Then my eyes found the source of the strange sound,
And i just stared in wide wonder.

On top of my dresser it stood,
Right next to the mirror it stood,
From nowhere it had come and it stood,
Living and breathing a pony.

It was a very little pony,
Quite a tubby little pony,
A very, very tiny pony,
Standing just three inches high.

It paraded around on the dresser,
Its hooves tap tapping the dresser,
Its nose nuzzling at the dresser,
It was clear that it wanted to eat.

A thimble i filled with cool water,
Some bread crumbs to accompany the water,
It supped and it drank of the water,
Until its appetite was sate.

Beautiful eyes had this pony,
A golden mane graced the neck of the pony,
As quick as the wind was this pony,
As it galloped around full of glee.

At this pony i stared and i gazed,
For hours and hours i gazed,
Until sleep overcame me i gazed,
And then in my dreams i cried.

When next i awake it’ll be gone,
I knew as i slept only gone,
Forever and always it’d be gone,
But i searched anyway in the morn.

And there where i left it the thimble,
Some crumbs all alone with the thimble,
No sign of the pony just the thimble,
But i smiled for I’d seen it last night.
