Even as we struggled
To keep the wheelbarrow upright
To be alive in the sunlight
That is the thing
Even this cold steel shoveling
On Red Dog's north flank
To be suddenly dumbstruck
Looking up the green/gold column
Of ten thousand pine-needles
Ablaze with golden sunlight
-That is the thing.
