David Patton - Walking Away

2014-06-14 22

Walking down this deserted beach,
I’m finally hit with the truth.

That there are only two directions in this game,
neither of which I have distilled into a proof.

Forwards leads me towards expectance,
while backwards takes me to something new.

These choppy crashing waves remind me
of days when I was nothing more then
a tool, a ride, a plan B.

Yet this cool breeze brings me back
to a calming memory,
one of accomplishments and wants.

But just as sure as I am of a coming sunset,
I know my days with you so called friends will be short lived.

And as this sand beneath my feet
slowly protrudes towards the ocean,
I weigh the truths,
Then turn around and begin my journey
of finding expectance within my self.
