Vanessa Millar - Take care of my memory

2014-06-14 4

When my last breath has been taken
And you. You are looking over my life.
Take time to think about the times we shared
And think of them from my standpoint. Not your own.

When my last sigh has been voiced
And you. You are pawing through my things.
Think of what they meant to me. What significance they held.
Don't see them as some strange whim.

Ask Who was this? What secrets were held?
What were the treasured moments?
Who were the dearest loves?
What true and sacred passion lied within?

If you can see these things
and know that what you see is not contrived.
Then and only then
Are you any friend of mine.

I did not need you to see these things
Nor express them when I was alive.
But in my absence I do
To help my spirit survive.

As a legacy that is precious
Requiring true and selfless love
To nurture and house it.
Take care of my memory.
