You see much more of wives than of girlfriends.
Girls cry alone unless to say begone.
A naked girlfriend’s to a wife who stands
before her mirror bare and isn’t done
dressing all morning, not to be compared.
A girlfriend shuts the door; a wife’s content
to grunt and smell, and hang out open-aired,
expecting a similar compliment.
A girlfriend gives you kisses and dewy eyes
because she is a meadow and alive.
A wife is what her husband satisfies,
and loves as much as love is made to thrive.
A girlfriend’s a wildflower strong and sweet.
A wife is orchard rows, vineyards, and heat.
