Barry Van Allen - Lost Causes

I thought that people might wake up,
... apply their brains to what they've seen,
I forgot that they were human beings,
... and will only see in front of them.

Abstraction is a concept of the educated,
distraction is the pass-time of the masses,
reflection is the luxury of those who are all done,
and tomorrow is too much sorrow that hasn't happened yet,
to anyone before them.

I thought that people might wake up, a bit,
if I could say what to expect,
if I could put life right in front of them,
... but, they continued to be human.

Continuing to see, so very little,
when all it shows, is almost nothing,
which is exactly as expected...
nothing less and nothing more.

Some profit at some endeavor,
makes all the difference,
A few dollars means a good year,
... or a bad one!
... some of us don't see that!

Gorillas in the mountains,
Elephants and Rhinoceroses,
- - - it seems completely damned preposterous,
that we consider ourselves above them!
... for one of the 6 Billion to survive.

The waking up is not that likely,
... don't count on brains to triumph,
they never have,
so, why start now?
- - - because, no matter how you think of it,
- - - selfish... is what humans are!
