Rhymin ' Simon and his buddy tried to tell me,
it's not as if I listened to what either had to say,
... it wasn't them,
it's that I listened to almost no one ... way back then,
- - - it was unfortunate for me,
because the price was mine to pay!
I gave up lying long ago, because all it ever got me was in deeper,
one lie begets the next, which seems to lead into the next one,
and eventually the whole damned thing just comes undone!
So, I began to tell the truth, which seemed to get me in more trouble,
but, then the idealistic bubble began to turn what once was rubble...
into a brain that was unfettered - - - and life got better.
The boxer learned the lessons of the ring where he once sparred,
... that a little truth can go a long, long way,
... and that a lot of lies won't take you very far!
