Thad Enouf - You Created a Monster

2014-06-14 7

For all the lies,
a life chaotic, relentless,
remorse and regret,
rootless and free
to dropp like a stone
for years to come,
years alone.

For robbing, taxing,
placing your bets
with my birthday money,
Crying but oh, so rarely
standing up to say
you’ve had enough,
that you need to fix
yourself, starting now.

For leaving for fifteen years
only to see you return
as though nothing happened,
as though distance is merely
a state of mind, not emotion.
But however you put it,
our molecules
were only acquaintances,
though bonded by blood.

For raising me to loathe
myself, to barely try for fear
of failure, to second-guess
my attempts,
and to agonize
over the results.

For the little things
that add up, the big things
that run them down;
from the micro, down
to you and I,
to civilizations who build
walls and collapse,
we no longer connect,
you and I.
