David S Dennis - (74) This Old Coat

2014-06-14 3

This life this coexistence
We inhabit like an old coat
Tattered and worn
Held together by threads of habit,
Convenience,
And moral obligation.
The love has gone, but life goes on.
And we pull this coat about us
To keep away the chill
If not to keep us warm
Souls divided, hearts estranged
Lives collided
Dreams broken on the same shore
And so we dwell among the wreckage
Pretending life is better
Looking for a reason to go on
