Dark the night, overcast,
No starlight,
Only a twisted moon,
Misshapen by black clouds,
And rain, cold and slashing,
Sent to punish me, for being
Stupid enough to be out
On a night like this...
Cold, dark streets,
Forbidding and cruel,
And only the night creatures
Are out, being punished,
Just as I am,
For being Stupid enough
To be out
On a night like this...
Buildings lean inward,
Holding each other up,
Bowed under the weight
Of the cruel, cold rain
Which piles up on the top
Of the sagging rooflines,
Being punished, Just as I am,
For being stupid enough
To be out on a night like this.
But I - I am rushing home to you,
For I know you are waiting for me,
And probably wondering just why
I am stupid enough to be out
On a night like this.
