Exiles, losers and betrayers,
disgraced, defrocked and even jailed,
these are the people who are players
who try to come back once they’ve failed.
Adversity for those who travel
down paths where signs say “no return, ”
may for those men whose lives unravel
teach better than a Grecian urn
that though truth is not beauty always,
it may lead us through darkened woods
when midlife ends, and into hallways
where we can trade past wrongs for goods.
