My heart is set
On a girl I can’t forget,
But she’s vanished from my eyes
And now only resides
In haunted memories
That never become dislodged
From my worn and weary mind.
I had great plans
To hold her hand
On the sacred ground
Where a priest would stand
And solemnly pronounce
She was my wife.
I don’t know
Which is worse
The vows never made
Or the vows never kept.
I could forgive her a thousand sins
If I could only see her again.
