I have acquired a taste for my own tears
just as you acquire a taste for delicacies
such as foie gras and caviar
reserved for metropolitan art parties
or nouveau riche regattas
so concentrated with sodium
they can’t be good for my heart
and my doctor would probably tell me
I should cut back my intake
to prevent clogging my burdened arteries
but I just love that flavor they add
when I’m weeping into a new pint
of triple-chunk fudge ice cream
an odd combination, I know –
what about fries and milkshakes
and how they go together so well?
this is basically the same thing...
... except for the heartache
