Standing on the edge of the road with you in my gaze
In the midst of a winter wonderland
An April afternoon
If April showers bring may flowers, then April snows bring…?
You
All around tiny snow flakes fall into my hair and yours,
Your hands and mine
Hail comes down, making that tinny, crunchy, biting sound like
The footsteps of a giant metal praying mantis
Cars rush by, pushing the wind past so it
Sweeps us with its white cold arms, moaning as it
Rushes across the bare tree tops
But in your arms I am
Protected
My mouth kept warm by yours
The air above is a dusky gray
In your eyes, the sky’s forgotten gentle blue
Ice in my hair, shaking from my curls as I laugh
At your frozen locks, the melted drops on your cheek
All around is a
Blank sky, wind, snow, sleet
White-frosted roads
ICE
But where we are
There is only
FIRE
