Nancy Crossman - When I Hear A Seagull's Cry

2014-06-12 12

A whisper carried on the warm breeze,
Was it a mermaid’s sigh?
Could it have been my weary mind,
Echoing thoughts as day slips by.

Tranquility like a warm embrace,
Evening shadows grow long.
Cool, damp sand beneath bare feet,
Seagulls crooning their song.

“Follow your heart to the ocean, ” they chant,
“She waits with open arms.”
Soaring, watching, they lead the way,
Keeping me from harm.

Crimson horizon, the setting sun
Slowly sinking into the sea.
Not another soul around,
Just the ocean, the seagulls and me.

Time and troubles drift away,
My heart begins to soar.
Nature cradles me to her breast,
As I stand at the ocean’s door.

“It’s time for you to go now, ”
The seagulls seem to say.
And I follow them along the shore,
Wishing I could stay.

My spirit is soaring with them,
I swear that I could fly!
Memories carry me away,
When I hear a seagull’s cry.
