‘Jersey Boys’ is Clint Eastwood’s latest movie, based on the award winning Broadway musical of the same name.
It tells the story of four young men from the wrong side of the tracks in New Jersey who came together in the early 1960s to form the iconic rock band ‘Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons’.
Eastwood, whose own father was a singer, has seen the Broadway show several times.
The Oscar winning director and actor says it was the story as much as the music that hooked him in: “I kind of fell in love with the idea of doing it and it just seemed the right thing to do. I like music a lot. I’ve done movies about musicians and music and that was great but I liked the story of the guys even without the music.”
Frankie Valli is played by John Lloyd Young who won a Tony Award for his portrayal of the lead singer on Broadway.
He says making the film allowed him to expand on the character: “On screen I was able to let these insights that I had all these years about the character sort of come out to play in a way that was not possible on stage and allow certain thoughts and attitudes of my character to just be present, and they’re visible here (shows his eyes) because the camera catches that.”
Produced and directed by Clint Eastwood, ‘Jersey Boys’ is on worldwide release from this month.
