Cameron Frank Read, a 39-year-old man in Prescott Valley, Arizona was arrested after shooting several rounds out of a window. When asked, he said his target was the moon.

The police were informed of the incident by a call from the man’s girlfriend.

She and her teenage son were both in the house at the time the shooting began.

According to the woman, Read made a remark about seeing Halley’s Comet -which incidentally was last visible in 1986 and not expected back until 2061 - and then opened fire.

After several rounds, she and her child both evacuated the home and continued to hear gunfire as they ran to safety.

When police arrived Read refused to come out, and reportedly caused damage to the house.

After a while, he did emerge, but wasn’t cooperative. Authorities described his behavior as confrontational and said he resisted arrest.

Force was ultimately used to take him into custody.

During subsequent questioning Read admitted he had smoked marijuana prior to the incident.

He’s been charged with unlawful discharge of a firearm, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, and endangerment, all of which are felonies. He was placed in Yavapai County Jail.
