The autumn leaves,
Abandoned tree,
The red and yellow,
Now are free,
A golden carpet,
Nature’s joy,
Now trampled on,
By girl and boy,
In love’s young dream,
And hand in hand,
They touch but never,
Understand,
That life is short,
And oh so sweet,
Like falling leaves,
On city street,
They’re taken by,
The wind that blows,
The naked tree,
Where life still flows,
Awaiting spring,
To bud again,
The autumn leaves,
Will feel no pain.
