Dr John Celes - Sonnet: Ruling People

2014-06-12 1

No form of government vouches for the poor;
All love to lie and cheat and steal from all;
They like to stay corrupt, blunder and err;
Their own upliftment is their clarion call!

When once empowered by people’s strong mandate,
Receiving bribes becomes their daily spree;
Thenceforth, they care not for the poor man’s fate;
A wealth-sucker of souls, they try to be!

The people’s power is used to subjugate;
Influence, clout become their thickest friends;
Their time is used to pilfer, devastate;
From rulers, they transform to be fiends!

No form of government ideally is good!
When greed enters hearts, poisonous turns the food!
