Cin Sweet Fields - Vegetarian

2014-06-12 4

Your steak just lying there
Looking up at you
Through big brown eyelashed eyes
Sadly watching the others
In the slaughter house line
All just waiting their turn
to die

Veal, house specialty
A terrified baby
Wrenched away from its mom
Locked up in a small wooden box
Alone
Eyes afraid, peeking out
Through the cracks
Listening to the tick-tock
Of the slaughterhouse clock

Roast pork today
Bright eyed, curly tailed
Doglike in many ways
Screaming in horror
Running fast on little legs
Unable to run away
Grabbed up and stabbed
By your stainless cutlery

Fried chicken on a blue plate
Crowded birds in misery
Stuffed in small cages
Not an extra inch
Of or for humanity
Can’t move around
No breathing space

And they ask me
Dear Cin,
Why would you be
A vegetarian?
