I watched my mother experience menopause,
Right at the time,
I discovered the truth about Santa Claus.
It was as if someone slapped me into reality!
And crushed my honey scented imagination...
And stung me like a bee.
I remember hearing my mom and dad,
Play with our Christmas toys.
And my sister Mimmie and I,
Pretended to be asleep...
But I took a peek,
And became much annoyed!
And when my father announced in the morning,
'Wake up kids,
Santa just left! '
My sister and I rushed to the tree,
We could barely take a breath!
And when I saw all the price tags on the toys,
I then became upset!
My mother looked at me...
And that's when I noticed her,
Break into sweats!
'These hot flashes,
I'm getting in dashes.
And dancing around is not the best!
You kids better enjoy those gifts Santa left...
Because these bills,
Is what I have to deal with next! '
And I looked at my sister...
As my father played with my train.
And I thought I'd better pretend,
Since this Christmas day for us...
Wasn't guaranteed not to end,
Even before it begins!
And I didn't want my mother,
To go through a change of life fit!
I wasn't sure what was going on with her then...
But as I grew older I realized,
Not to make fun of it!
Or stare with a silly grin.
'Ma...
This is the best Christmas 'ever'! '
I lied!
And she cried with joy!
My mama did not raise us to be fools!
And I knew just what to say...
To keep my position as 'mama's boy.
And what to do to keep mama cool!
