Chef Eric Greenspan walks down to Randy's Donuts, a restaurant as classic to Los Angeles as the Hollywood sign. It's been serving Los Angeles since 1963 and today it's double drive-through still gets 24 hour traffic. Larry, the current and 3rd owner of Randy's Donuts and all-out donut wizard, walks Eric through their daily doughnut making process. Step by step the donut wizard takes the grilled cheese pimp on a journey of discovery as each doughnut gets molded, baked, fried, and showered in sugar.
Eric must take the knowledge and quickly apply it to the creation of a grilled cheese worthy of this delicious establishment. Instead of making a donut grilled cheese he creates a grilled cheese donut. He stuffs it with Gruyere cheese sauce, adds caraway seeds to the dough to make it rye flavored, coats it in a cheesetastic Gruyere glaze, and covers it with caramelized onions and crispy bits of beef. The result is a patty melt doughnut recipe so mind-blowing, so epic, so scrumtrulescent that it will kick you right in the donuts! Make this and all your friends will be super jelly!
