Francis Duggan - I Come From The Place Of The Great Grey Backed Crow

2014-06-11 3

I come from the place of the great grey backed crow
Far north of this Land where Finnow waters flow
Under the bridge by Millstreet Town on the road to Rathmore
On to the Blackwater to the Atlantic shore
In my flights of fancy I watch the lark fly
Up from a clump of rushes to carol in the sky
And the song of the robin is a joy to hear
He does sing his finest in the Spring of the year
When the bluebells are blooming on the ditch of the bohreen
And wildflowers everywhere in the fields to be seen
I live in the Land of the wombat and roo
Rosella, kookaburra, emu and cockatoo
But memories of the Homeplace with me do remain
And in fancy I walk in the old fields again.
