Naledi Yaziyo - I fell inlove with an old man's prayer (inspired by Gcina Mhlope)

I fell in love with an old man's prayer

The one who is first to kneel and last to stand.
Praying for everything but himself:

'I pray for this daughter who has a child,
lord I know that she is young
but I pray she draws her courage from the rising sun.

I pray for the criminals behind bars
may they find forgiveness in your waiting arms

I pray for the mothers who are losing hope
I pray they dip their breasts in your well of righteousness
to be suckled by the children of this land.

I pray for the prostitute, selling her soul
For she too is someone's child.

I pray for the man on the street whose shoes don't quite fit.
The man nursing his bleeding feet.

I pray for the murderer, the bank robber, the alcoholic and anyone who is crying...'

I fell inlove with the simplicity of an old-man's prayer.

'I never have to pray for myself because part of me lives in everyone I've met.'

I fell in love with an old man's prayer.
