The Taliban has claimed responsibility for a five-hour assault at Karachi airport which left 28 people dead.
Ten gunmen, some disguised as policemen, stormed the international terminal, opening fire with machine-guns and rocket launchers and killing 18 people.
The chief minister of Pakistan’s Sindhu Province, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, confirmed that all ten attackers were killed.
“Our security forces confronted and killed them. They destroyed them. It is good that this operation was over in about four, five hours.”
The Taliban said the attack on Jinnah International Airport was in revenge for the death of their leader, killed in a US drone strike last November.
Peace talks between the militant group and the government had floundered in recent weeks leading to the Taliban calling off their cease-fire.
