Drivers in Pittsburgh are getting some serious credit for potentially saving the life of a small dog. On Monday morning, the roughly 10 pound male Chihuahua mix was spotted running loose inside the Fort Pitt Tunnel.

What followed was 30 minutes of traffic chaos. Some cars swerved to avoid hitting the pooch, while others stopped their vehicles and got out to rescue him, which caused a major backup.

Seeing the autos and people seemed to scare the pooch as he quickly darted underneath a parked car. Alexandra Sabina is one of the motorists who stopped to help the frightened canine.

She along with numerous other concerned drivers did their best to coax him out of his hiding spot. Together they used a kayak paddle to usher and nudge the dog.

After a little while, they got him out safely. He was placed into the care of staffers at the Western Pennsylvania Humane Society.

Soon thereafter, the dog was reunited with his owner. He had taken off when the owner was visiting family.
