Chinese general hits back at Japan and US

Senior Chinese general Wang Guanzhong's upset at criticism of his country by Japan and the United States.

Speaking at a security summit in Singapore, the deputy chief of China's People's Liberation Army, went off script to hit back.

(SOUNDBITE) (Mandarin) DEPUTY CHIEF OF CHINA'S PEOPLE'S LIBERATION ARMY, WANG GUANZHONG SAYING:

"Mr Abe and Mr Hagel's speech is a form of provocation towards China. One of my foreign friends told me, for Mr Abe as a Prime Minister and Mr Hagel as a Secretary of Defense, of two big countries, to make such accusations towards China at an event like this, is unthinkable. This is totally beyond my expectations."
