U.S. Airways Flight 598, which was headed towards Philadelphia from Los Angeles had to make an unexpected stop because a dog reportedly pooped right in the aisle.

According to passengers, some of whom used Twitter to document the experience, the large breed canine pooed in the aisle up to three times. The smell and possibly just the sight of it made numerous travelers sick.

One of the passengers, Steve McCall remarked “The second time after the dog pooped they ran out of paper towels, they didn't have anything else. The pilot comes on the radio, ‘Hey, we have a situation in the back, we're going to have to emergency land.”

The aircraft was diverted to Kansas City. It landed safely there, where a cleaning crew was recruited to address the unpleasant situation.

After that, the flight took off again and arrived at its intended destination. U.S. Airways later confirmed the pooch is a service dog, which is why he or she wasn’t crated on the aircraft.

A contributing factor to the poo problem is that the plane’s departure time had been delayed due to a fuel spill, so the pooch was forced to sit for an additional two hours.

The canine’s owner apologized and offered to buy Starbucks gift cards for everyone onboard.
