She was a force on stage, screen and the printed page and has been described as a "warrior for equality, tolerance and peace". On today’s show we look back at the life and career of Maya Angelou after the poet, author, actress and civil rights activist passed away at age 86. She rose from poverty and segregation to become, as US President Barack Obama puts it, "one of the brightest lights of our time".
Plus we check out the documentary examining the power of the pen. As the Cannes selected "Foot Soldiers of Democracy" hits cinema screens here in France, we take a look at those standing up for freedom of speech bubbles.
And we meet those dancing with the wounds of war. An experimental programme in Denmark is bringing together injured soldiers and ballerinas, with an anti-fighting message.
