The number of people without a job in France rose by nearly 15,000 in April.
It hit a new record – 3,364,100 in mainland France, a 3.5 percent jump from last April.
The most recent figures, which are from the end of last year, show the jobless total at 10.2 percent of the workforce.
President Francois Hollande’s campaign to bring unemployment down is further undermined. His ratings have crumbled to record lows in the face of unfulfilled promises on jobs and a stagnant economy.
Hollande is pinning his hopes on a plan to reduce company payroll taxes by 30 billion euros in exchange for commitments from firms to hire and invest in France.
