The dog that was chased away by Tara the ‘Hero Cat’ has been euthanized. The canine, named Scrappy was placed into the custody of staffers at Bakersfield animal shelter following the attack on the 4-year-old boy, Jeremy Triantafilo.

Employees at the facility spent 10 days attempting to rehabilitate the dog, but all the efforts proved to be futile. Reportedly Scrappy tried to bite staffers and continuously showed signs of aggression.

Jeremy’s mother and owner of Tara, Erica seemed to know all along that there would be problems with Scrappy. Prior to his euthanization on May 24th, she commented "The animal can be rehabilitated by the family possibly but from what I understand, that's a long and difficult procedure to get the dog back in the owner's custody. Otherwise it will be put to sleep, unfortunately."

Scrappy, who is a lab/chow mix, was only 8 months old at the time of his death. Meanwhile, Tara has met with a different fate, having been cast into the spotlight after saving little Jeremy.

Deemed as a fiercely protective hero, the now famous kitty recently threw out the first pitch for the Bakersfield Blaze.
