30 years ago, based on their lived experience, Amethyst's Founding Mothers dreamed of creating a safe, sober, drug-free environment where recovering women and their children could live while receiving services that would lead to life long recovery.
No one could ever have dreamed of the Amethyst of today. Amethyst has become recognized at the state and national level as one of the largest and most successful gender competent and trauma informed treatment agencies. From the first house, Amethyst now manages over 140 housing units where women and families live while participating in comprehensive addiction, mental health, trauma, and tobacco treatment.
Virginia "Ginny" O'Keeffe was one of those Founding Mothers and after 30 years as Amethyst CEO, is retiring.
