Cannes Winners For Guys: Barton Fink

2014-05-23 25

The Coen Brothers' Barton Fink is one of those movies that was almost universally loved by critics and awards season voters, but largely ignored by audiences at the same time. The 1991 screwball comedy/noir about a 1940s screenwriter with an acute case of writer's block starring John Turturro and John Goodman has since become the cult classic it deserves, but it also has another important legacy. Following the Coen's rare sweep of all the major Cannes awards -- beating out competition from big names like Spike Lee, David Mamet and Lars Von Trier -- the festival has limited entrants to a maximum of two awards ever since.
