A car thief in St. Petersburg, Florida found something, or rather someone unexpected in the backseat.

The suspect reportedly stole the vehicle, a 2013 Toyota Highlander, from a local church parking lot. Mere minutes after driving away the man realized a baby girl, still sitting in her safety seat, was right behind him.

Shockingly, the thief decided to stop the vehicle and drop the 10-month-old girl off on a stranger’s porch before taking off yet again in the stolen vehicle. Home surveillance footage captured the act.

The concerned homeowner quickly found the unharmed infant and contacted police for help.

The parents of the child had been moving tables and chairs from their SUV to the church at the time the auto was stolen.

The baby's mother remarked “It didn’t dawn on me to go take the keys out of the car and get the baby because we were going back and forth. I was terrified, horrified. I could not think straight.”

Soon, the family was reunited with their daughter. The SUV was located a little later in an abandoned parking lot. Police are still searching for the suspect and say he may have been with an accomplice.
