Panic just moments after a car bomb tore through this checkpoint on Syria's border with Turkey, killing 43 people.

Five women and three children are believed to be among the dead. Activists say scores of people were wounded.

It is not clear at this point who carried out the attack at this crossing, which is operated by rebel fighters. Some are pointing the finger at a group called the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant, a group of hardliners who defected from al Qaeda.
