Thousands evacuated in path of California fires

A new development in the fires that are ravaging Southern California --- police arrested at least two people on arson-related charges in Escondido.

Around 125,000 people have fled their homes in the San Diego area.

Many anxiously wait for updates from shelters set up in schools and churches.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) FIRE EVACUEE VERONICA CAMACHO, SAYING:

"All our stuff, everything gone, that's what's going through my head. Our home, where are we going to live?"

Crews have made some progress against the nine fires, which have scorched thousands of acres this week.

This California resident is trying to stay positive.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) ANNE FROYEN-MOWERY, FIRE EVACUEE, SAYING:

"If we, if it hits our neighborhood and we lose our house, we would be pretty devastated, but we are all safe, our family is all safe, I believe our neighbors are all safe and that's what matters. So we're all worried but it could be a lot worse."
